Have you ever thought about what you eat, other than just what you’re “hungry” for? Eating is much more than just your hunger talking; on a physiological level, your body is telling you what it needs – vitamins, minerals, nutrients – and the particular foods you choose (or even crave) ultimately provide you with those very things at any given meal. (Puts a nice spin on those indulgences, doesn’t it!?)
While this is true largely for most meals and snacks – what does this say about you and your well-being when you overeat, make “poor” food choices, or even go against allergies or intolerances and fully indulge? The concept of “mindful” or “conscious” eating demands that we’ve attained a certain level of self-awareness, that not many today (especially those that live heavily stressed and busy lifestyles) possess. What does being self-aware mean to you? What do you allow yourself to indulge in, and what do you cut out, and why? How do these choices ultimately affect your day?
